My Partner Wants to Make the Pregnancy Decision Together, But We’re Not on the Same Page

Discovering you are pregnant can bring up many emotions, and things can feel even more complex when you and your partner see things differently. You may both care deeply about each other and want to face this together, but that does not always mean you immediately agree on what comes next.

If you are not on the same page right now, you are not alone. Many couples need time to process unexpected news and sort through their thoughts before reaching clarity.

At Mendo Lake Women’s Clinic, our staff provides a safe place where patients can ask questions, talk through concerns, and receive evidence-based information to help them move toward educated decisions. Our Clinic has two locations serving Lake and Mendocino counties. All of our services are no-cost and confidential.

Different Reactions Are Common

When a pregnancy is unexpected, people often react in different ways. One partner may feel strongly about a particular outcome right away, while the other may still be processing the news.

This difference doesn’t mean your relationship is failing or that one of you is wrong. It simply reflects that each person is experiencing the situation from their own perspective, emotions, and circumstances.

It can help to:

  • Take time to reflect before making a decision
  • Have honest conversations about your concerns and hopes
  • Seek guidance from a trusted, neutral source

Giving yourselves space to think clearly can reduce pressure and help both of you communicate more openly.

Getting Clear Information Can Help Both of You

Before making any pregnancy decision, it’s important to confirm key medical details. Having accurate information can help you and your partner discuss your options more clearly and work toward educated decisions together.

At Mendo Lake Women’s Clinic, we offer no-cost pregnancy testing as an important first step. After a positive test, patients may also qualify for a limited obstetric ultrasound, performed by our trained RN’s, to help determine how far along the pregnancy is, confirm the pregnancy is located in the uterus, and assess whether the pregnancy appears to be progressing.

If you come in for pregnancy testing, STI testing may also be available as part of your visit.

A Space to Talk It Through

If conversations between you and your partner feel tense or difficult to navigate, talking with someone outside the relationship can help.

At Mendo Lake Women’s Clinic, you can meet privately with a patient advocate for a confidential consultation where you can discuss all of your available options. Our staff is here to listen, answer your questions, and provide evidence-based information so you can feel more confident as you consider your options and work toward a decision with confidence, not pressure.

You Do Not Have to Navigate This Alone

This decision deserves time, care, and honest conversation. Request a no-cost appointment at our Clinic today and take the first step toward the clarity you deserve to make an educated decision that is truly your own.

Mendo Lake Women’s Clinic does not perform or refer for abortions.
