7 Top Pregnancy Symptoms
Pregnancy symptoms can either show up very early or take a while to be noticed. Testing and having an ultrasound are sure ways to confirm a pregnancy; however, if you do suspect a pregnancy, here are the most commonly reported signs to watch for.
Missed Period
For women with regular periods, missing a menstrual cycle is a strong indicator of pregnancy. If you’re currently on the pill for birth control or routinely experience irregular periods, missing your cycle may be misleading.
Fatigue
Feeling extra tired lately? Tiredness and fatigue are commonly experienced in early pregnancy. This is because a pregnancy uses a lot of energy to create the placenta, make new hormones, and sustain the growing embryo. All that extra work is likely the cause of feeling fatigued during pregnancy.
Nausea or Vomiting
Some women will experience nausea or vomiting very early in pregnancy while others do not experience it at all. If certain smells or foods are starting to make you sick to your stomach, you might be pregnant.
Tender Breasts
Did you know breast tissue can become sensitive and sore in the early weeks of pregnancy? All the new hormones being created by the pregnancy are likely the culprit to this pesky symptom. The good news is most women only experience tender breasts for the first few weeks of pregnancy.
Mood Swings
Feeling like you jump from one emotion to the other? Mood swings are common during pregnancy and again can be linked back to all the new hormones being produced. Give yourself a little extra grace if you’re feeling sad, overwhelmed, or anxious.
Bloating
Are you feeling bloated but have not started your period yet? According to the Mayo Clinic, hormonal changes during pregnancy can bring on fullness similar to menstrual bloating.
Nasal Congestion
Pregnancy hormones and an increased blood supply can create dry and stuffy nasal passages. If you’re experiencing an uptick in nose bleeds and congestion, you could be pregnant.
Make A Plan
If your period is more than a week late and you’re also experiencing two or more of the above symptoms, it’s time to take a pregnancy test.
